Welcome to Power Up with Lisa!
Hello, and welcome to the inaugural issue of our self-defense newsletter! I’m Lisa, and I’m excited to share insights, techniques, and stories that will empower you to feel safe, confident, and capable in any situation.
Why Self-Defense?
Self-defense is about more than just physical techniques; it’s about empowerment, awareness, and developing a mindset that helps you navigate the world confidently. Whether you’re looking to boost your physical skills, increase your situational awareness, or simply learn to trust your instincts, you’re in the right place.
Focus of the Month
The Basic Fighting Stance
A strong foundation begins with a solid stance. Here’s a simple stance that you can practice:
- Feet: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. If you’re right-handed, step back with your right foot; if left-handed, step back with your left.
- Knees: Keep your knees slightly bent for stability.
- Hands: Raise clenched fists up to protect face and chest. This position is both defensive and ready for action.
Practice holding this stance while breathing deeply. Remember, the goal is to feel grounded and ready!

Community Spotlight
Each month, we’ll feature stories from our community.
Meet Dr. Felicia Conner: Empowering Her Community Through Self-Defense
This month, we're excited to shine a spotlight on Felicia, who hosted a Power Up Self-Defense Workshop at her chiropractic practice back in September. Felicia’s motivation for offering this event was simple yet powerful: to help not only herself but also her children and clients feel safer in their everyday lives.
As a mother, Felicia understood the importance of being prepared for any situation, and learning self-defense was a key step in that process. She shared how the techniques she learned gave her a newfound sense of confidence and peace of mind, knowing that she could protect herself and her family if needed.
Felicia also saw an opportunity to empower others in her community. By hosting the workshop at her chiropractic business, she created a space where clients could come together, learn valuable skills, and feel supported. For her, it was more than just a class—it was about creating a community that looks out for each other.
Her dedication to helping others and her willingness to share her knowledge is truly inspiring. We’re grateful for her efforts to foster safety and strength within her community.
Thank you, Felicia, for all that you do to make those around you feel safe and empowered!
